fish chair
My goal was to make a chair that someone could put in their living or dining room. I wanted it to be:
1) Comfortable
2) Cut on a CNC machine
3) Flat-packable
and most importantly:
4) Fish inspired
I was inspired by this fish lawnchair, but it was nowhere near dignified enough to be an indoor chair.
design
My initial designs prioritized the organic and “fish-like” shape of the chair, but overlooked erganomics. I tried to improve the comfort of the chair in the next iteration.
Before committing to my final design, I laser-cut the design to simulate what it would look and feel like when CNCed.
I was pretty happy with the look and feel, and it seemed sturdy enough on this smaller scale, so I made minimal adjustments before moving onto the final prototype.
laser-cutting file
I CNC cut the final piece, sanded and stained them, and assembled. There was no glue necassary, and I was able to put it together and take it apart with a mallet quite easily.
Once assembled, it was very sturdy, and was able to support up to 300 lbs.
